H4N responds to the King’s Speech

May 14, 2026

We welcome the strong commitment in the King’s Speech to protect and strengthen social housing, alongside the Government’s continued focus on raising standards and driving the delivery of more affordable homes.

In response, Paul Fiddaman, Chair of Homes for the North, said:

“Homes for the North welcomes the Government’s continued commitment to the affordable housing sector. The Social Housing Renewal Bill is another crucial step towards unlocking the ability of our members to deliver new homes and shape better places in communities across the North. New restrictions on right to buy give us the confidence to invest for the longer term, knowing that stock we develop won’t be lost before its benefits have been fully realised by those in the greatest need.

“At a time of political change at a local level across our region, our members stand ready to work with partners old and new to rise to the challenge and deliver the thousands of much-needed social and affordable homes that our communities desperately need.”
