Today the revived National Economic Council, comprising of Mayors including those from across the North of England, will meet in the new No.10 North in Manchester. Homes for the North sees this as an encouraging signal that the new Prime Minister is serious about empowering regional Mayors and Combined Authorities to deliver growth, including in housing.
In the video below, our Chair, Paul Fiddaman, shares his reflections on the Prime Minister’s emerging priorities.
Our members already work closely with Mayors, Combined Authorities and local authorities to deliver transformational change. From Incommunities‘ redevelopment of outdated tower blocks in Bingley into 93 affordable homes, to the regeneration of Sheffield’s iconic Park Hill by Places for People and Great Places Housing Group alongside Homes England and Sheffield City Council, partnership working is already making a difference.
Yet many communities across the North continue to require significant investment and regeneration. Greater devolution, combined with the right policy and funding framework, has the potential to unlock barriers to delivery and accelerate progress.
Homes for the North stands ready to work with Government, Mayors and regional partners to help turn ambition into action and deliver more and better homes across the North of England.
